STEPS FOR DOWNLOADING DESIGNS from the INTERNET

1. Connect to the internet.

2. "Surf" to the web page from which you desire to download.

3. Place your mouse cursor over the desired design (or on the name of the design, depending upon how the web site has it set up) When you cursor becomes a pointing finger, you have it on the correct place for downloading. (Keep in mind that some web sites also have the name of the design's creator under the design. If your cursor becomes a pointing finger when you place it on the name, this means that you can e-mail the creator a short "thank you" note. Since these design creators have often spent many hours to create each design, it would be courteous for you to thank them for their generosity. This always makes the creators want to give more "freebies" on the internet, and soimetimes spurs them to send you another freebie through your e-mail. First-time design digitizers are especially encouraged by receiving thank-you notes.)

4. Click on the design. A "Download File" window will appear on your screen with two choices. Always leave the default checked, so that you can download it to a disk. The file will not open from this location, as usually these files are in "zipped" form, or compressed so that they will easily download through phone lines to your computer.

5. Click on "OK" and another box will appear, allowing you to select where the file will go. Usually you will want to download to a 3 1/2" floppy disk so that you can easily find it after downloading. But you can create a special download folder on the hard drive of your computer, if you have lots of hard drive space. (The zipped files do not take up much memory or space on your computer's hard drive, but when you open then they do take up quite a lot of space. You may eventually want to save all of your downloaded designs to a read/write CD, if you have this feature on your computer.)

6. After selecting the disk where you want the zipped file to go, and click on "OK." The download will begin, and you will be able to see the progress on your screen. Some designs take quite a few seconds, while others download so fast that you hardly know it has happened.

7. Continue to use this method to download the designs that you want. When you are finished downloading for this session, you can disconnect from the internet if you wish.
