STEPS FOR "UNZIPPING" FILES

These steps are for WinZip Wizard

Open the Winzip program and make sure that you are using the "Wizard" feature of the program. Winzip has two versions -- Winzip Classic, and Winzip Wizard. Class is more complicated to use, and has many more capabilities than you need for simply unzipping design files. So make sure that you are using the Wizard.

If you have downloaded the evaluation version, you will need to read the agreement and then click on "I Agree." You are agreeing that you are using this program for a short period of time for free, and the company hopes that you will purchase a version later.

1. The first window that you will see is one that you can skip through. Click on "Next" to go to the "Select File" window.

2. After the "Select File" window opens, the software will be looking for your zipped file. It will probably be looking somewhere on your hard drive (the "C" drive). Your zipped files should be on the floppy, so click on the "Search" button at the bottom of the window. Then click on "Next."

3. The "WinZip Search" window opens, and you will see a list of places that the program can search for your zipped files. If your design files are on the floppy disk, then click on the third button down and click on the down arrow to select the "A" drive. Click on "OK."

4. The zipped files that are on your floppy disk are now showing in the "Select Zipped Files" window. The first one in the list whoudl already be highlighted. Click on "Next."

5. This new window is showing where WinZip will place your unzipped file, but you will probably not want to place it there. WinZip creates a folder named "Unzipped" when the program loads onto your computer. This file can easily and quickly become overloaded with unzipped design files that will not be categorized except in alphabetical order. So you will want to click on the "Select Different Folder" button and select the floppy drive ("A" drive) or select another place on your hard drive where you can easily find the file when you need it. Click on "OK" and then click on "Unzip Now."

6. Your chosen file has been successfully unzipped, and you can click on the "Next" button to go through the same procedure with each zipped file that is on your floppy disk. You will need to select each of the files individually, as they will remain in order and the first file is already unzipped. When they are all unzipped, you can close the WinZip program. At some point you may get a message saying that the floppy disk is full. If so, you will need to place your unzipped files on your hard drive temporarily il you decide where all of the files will be placed for storage. You will not simply be able to put in another disk when you get this message. Your computer will not know where to get the zipped files if you remove the floppy from your computer at this time. After your files are unzipped, you can delete the original zipped files if you wish. Or you can store them in a safe place in case you lose or accidentally delete one of your design files.

Enjoy unzipping files and using them in your emboridery machine.
